Coaching Network

The Hong Kong Coaching Network has many great stories and pastors’ lives being changed and churches turned around. Quite a few churches has become missionary sending churches as well. The following and 3 stories – all were coached by Paul Ma.

  • (From Joy) I have joined Coachnet since it was started. This is such a loving network which supports me always. Each meeting is like a family gathering. Each testimony from our dearest brothers and sisters shared is as a powerful injection which encourages my ministry. We are one in Christ Jesus and striving together for our Lord. This spirit drives us, as a body of Christ, forward without anyone feeling they have to be alone. It's really wonderful and fantastic!!!

I am so grateful to my coach, Paul Ma, who walks along with me for many years. His commitment to my church, my ministry and even my family is a selfless service which testify that we are really one in the Lord. “One body one church” is not just a slogan but an important truth which we may put it into practice.

  • Pastor Ernest had been away from Hong Kong for about 30 years. He, at the age of forty plus, felt called by God to return to Hong Kong and to serve the kingdom of the Lord. He then studied theology and graduated from seminary in 2013. He then became the pastor of a church in Shatin. The church at that moment had just experienced a major division and about half of the congregation left. Only about sixty to seventy people stayed. The previous senior pastor, also the elder of the church, died of cancer after this incident in 2014. Then Pastor Ernest became the senior pastor. As most of the people that stayed were frustrated, confused and disappointed, there was a lot of distrust within the church. Some leaders and members did not trust their new senior pastor. Moreover there were some conflicts between the pastors. Pastor Ernest felt that it was impossible for him to lead and function as the senior pastor.

At the end of 2015, Pastor Ernest was introduced to Hong Kong Coachnet and met Pastor Paul Ma and Pastor Danny Leung of the network. After discussing with their deacons and having their approval, Pastor Paul and Pastor Danny officially became the coaches of this church. During the past year, these two pastors had joined the deacons meeting several times, and also they had just joined their staff planning camp in October, 2016. With the help of these two coaches, the tension among the pastors had been eased. The staff team experienced real reconciliation among them and they were grateful that their relationship with the deacons had improved a lot. Pastor Paul and Pastor Danny will provide discipleship training to all church leaders in the coming year. Moreover, each of them will preach three to four times in the Sunday morning services next year. With the help of these two coaches, the atmosphere of this church, or at least the leaders of this church, has changed from division to unity, from distrust to interdependence, from complains to compliments, from disappointment to hope.

  • Two years ago, I joined the current served church, namely, Tsuen Wan Ling Liang Church. The church has about 200 members and collaborated with a kindergarten to execute evangelistic functions. In facing with the challenges of various ministry barriers, I decided to strategically position our church for growth in compliance with the great commission and the Great Commandment as instructed by Christ Jesus. I hope that I can help moving the church forward and therefore I planned to enhance church ministry, increase people engagement, participation and interaction, as well as to strengthen discipleship. Thanks to God, at that critical period, Rev. Paul Ma of CCN agreed to act as the coach of our church. Through multiple workshops and meetings, he challenges our church leaders and members to refocus on church vision, to re-position Christ Jesus at the center of our community, to emphasize cells as communities of sacrificial love, to encourage every church member to use their gifts to edify one another, and to stress that every church member ought to involve in friendship evangelism. Coaching draws an outside influence to our church. Rev. Ma helps coachees’ church to reform the church culture and core values, to facilitate the church leaders to resolve the church tensions, and to re-connect the church with the inside and outside resource networks.
