Summer, the first-timer of CCMN STM, has signed up Nepal Team with a brother in Christ.
In contrast with his title, Preacher from Plover Cove Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Summer plays a meager role in missions. He never considers himself missionary or missional facilitator. He even skipped the selective subject, Missiology, in his theology course. By his experience, STM was simply a mono-cultural short-distance journey with a well-organized program to follow through.
During the post-Covid period, his church ministries have been staggering with scanty congregational participation in summer season. To channel his energy for a revival, he takes the inspiration from Coachnet and starts from the basic - building up a good relationship with God – either from the perspective of self-growth or pastoral care. Summer is able to keep company the church member in STM to Nepal. He knows how important to set a good example to his congregation in the matter of mission, “walk the talk”.
Frankly speaking, never been to Nepal, Summer is not keen on going. He thinks it may be a hard trip. What challenges he has anticipated is communication barriers. He explained it with a firm voice. The Nepal team is composed of two sub-teams. The full team will not be formed until the Indians catch them up in Nepal. It also means that cross-cultural ad hoc interactions await Summer as he is obliged to share burdens with his team leader, Bella.
As if Summer made the comment not just for himself, “Those advices (given by missionaries, such as non-verbal power) are good. It means well. It works well. Yet, I have not been through. I make assumptions. I see my weaknesses. I dare not step forward. But when it comes to situation, I will take it and overcome it.” Both Summer and the brother in Christ will overcome.
