Local people can respond to the Great Commission

Text: Shan (Japan Missionary)

In early December 2024, I participated in an STM by JCMN to Noto Peninsula where a strong earthquake occurred at the beginning of the year.

The leader this time is Kaori. She grew up in a pastor‘s family and used to work at a hospital. Ever since the COVID-19 outbreak, she began thinking more about following Jesus’ Great Commission. She gave up her job where she worked for nearly ten years and went to Southern Thailand for a mid-term mission. There, she learned to overcome language and cultural barriers and how to put her life in God‘s hands.

Under God’s miraculous guidance, she moved from her hometown of Yamaguchi Prefecture to Nagasaki Prefecture to assist in developing new ministries in the community. In Japanese culture, it is not easy to take a leave from work and it is tough for believers to take a leave even if they want to participate in a STM. However, since we look forward to raising more Japanese believer leaders in our ministry, we all try our best to cooperate and make it happen.

During the summer vacation, Kaori participated in an STM to Noto. There, she was deeply moved by the missionaries’ dedication and the needs of the residents. After returning home, she contacted all her church friends and shared their local needs with them. Inviting everyone to contribute to the needs of the Noto area. Therefore, whether it is just a prayer, a financial donation, or even an action, we are all working together and doing our best to respond to the Great Commission!
