Just Obey: Come Here Children

There were two STM’s parenting teams, one for Southern Thailand, another the Philippines, taking families to serve in the field. Parents alongside 13 children went to the camp for training. But children had their own training sessions and were looked after by 4 lead trainers, outside of meals and worship times.
“These sessions recognize the children’s own participation in STM, not just their parent’s companions. Children are members and have their own roles in STM. They are valued by God just as their parents are,” Jody, the coordinator, explained the purpose of this children training.
Gwenda, one of the young lead trainers, shared how the team set an example to these juniors, “our volunteer team is comprised of members from various churches. We brainstorm and organize ideas; we accept and learn from one another. We work as one team to show how unity looks like in front of the children.”
The training sessions used a simple, children-friendly approach to align with the theme, core values and principles of “Just Obey”. Besides the colourful STM handbooks and Mission Night tailored for children, the program included joyful ice-breakers, trust-building adventure games and an exciting explorative tour to prepare children with the right attitude for departure.
As recorded by two little reporters, Wing Sum and Yu Sum, children shared their thanksgiving: “Activities fit us!” “Didn’t fall ill!” “It’s playful and joy!” “Love the candies!” When invited to encourage one another, children pointed to the ones with praise: “Very brave to touch the insect!” “She’s quiet but plays hard!” “Care for others!” The session closed in a cheerful and supportive atmosphere.
