Just Obey: One Family

“We don’t look only at our church, but the whole body of Christ,” said Chris, the servant leader of Tsuen Wan Ling Liang Church, who has been walking out his faith and conviction with his family.

Windy, Chris’ wife, learnt about CCMN from her church pastor 12 years ago. Motivated by sharing sessions led by CCMN pastors and Smart Team members, she volunteered for Smart Team alongside her then-teenage daughter, Vanessa. Windy later introduced the group to Chris and started a brand new way to work out family mission work locally.

As a volunteer, Windy heard powerful missionary testimonies at meetings, camps and conferences while humbly handling behind-the-scene preparation. Guided by Jesus’ love, she and her family opened their home to host and share meals with fellows in and related to the mission fields. Now Windy serves on her church’s preaching team, actively takes part in MAT gatherings and invites newcomers to learn about missions.

Chris led his family to short term mission trips when his children were young. Dedicated to field workers, the couple travelled afar to visit them when their children have grown up. During COVID, Chris offered his support through online activities. Now he shares mission insights through courses, sermons and discipleship programs at different churches, connecting networks across congregations.

One Body One Church is more than a slogan for this couple. They deliberately sent their children to another church, Shepherd Community Church, where the two children discover friendship, love and purpose in Christ with their same generations. This decision nurtured Vanessa (MTC graduate) and Angus (SBD graduate, just returned from Japan STM), who now extend the same love and mentor other younger generations at their parents’ church.

The family’s 10-year effort has proven fruitful in mission as a household and as part of a renewing church culture.
