#JustObey: Listen to God

This year STM team was finally able to reach Myanmar after the last mission trip in 2019, before the Pandemic and the Civil War broke out. Team leader, Fiona, obeyed God’s calling to lead and received healing in the training camp.

Fiona went to Myanmar for her first STM in 2019. A kindergarten teacher herself was fascinated by children and orphanage ministry stated in the STM brief. What has captured her heart was a sermon delivered by Suan, the hosting pastor in Myanmar, who took a short trip to Hong Kong at that time. Suan retold the story of 5 loaves and 2 fish. “We are 5 loaves & 2 fish. We have 5 loaves & 2 fish. If we are selfish keeping things to ourselves, we only have what we have. But if we are generous, like the child offering God what he has, God makes them a miracle.”

Suan practiced what he preached. He opened an orphanage and took 30+ then, now 50+ orphans under his own keep. He walked like Jesus. Fiona was truly moved.

During this 5-year gap, Fiona missed the pastor and his children. She lost contact with Suan whom she met again at last year Global Summit. Since then, she started following his updates on social media. With a nod from her husband, Fiona’s second trip to Myanmar was confirmed. Though she did not plan to lead a team, an invitation by Smart Team confirmed her call. The theme “Just Obey” both the Summit and STM had shared rang twice in Fiona’s mind.

At the first night in the training camp, there was a time for solitude and prayer. The open wound of being team leader in the past made Fiona’s heart ache. But God gave her a new perspective to face her challenge in the same session. “It was not failure. It helps you grow. Don’t be a task-oriented manager who tries to do more.” Refreshed in heart, Fiona decided to give a free rein to the Holy Spirit for her leadership this year and let the young teammates do more. After all, “When Man does less, God do more”.
