#JustObey: Walk Out His Heart

“When connecting all my life stories since joining STM in 2023, I realize I’m not just serving as a temporary youth pastor or getting into the mission for a season. I’ve been taking part in God’s mission movement ever since,” said Mak, leader of Baguette Country team this year, wrapping up his 4-year STM journey on stage at the sending ceremony and confirmed his future in mission.
Recalling his first Southern Thailand trip, Mak credited his team leader for teaching him and his church peers what discipleship truly looks like. That team leader took his disciple with him for STM. This prompted Mak to become a life-shaping discipler. Besides, “Mission is a Lifestyle” was not a slogan for that year, but an eye-opening experience to Mak.
“We often think discipleship is about learning truth or reciting bible verses. But the truth is take your disciple to serve alongside you! It’s not a study course. It’s living closely together and risking together with your disciple. Mission isn’t just for the talented or the top-notched; it’s for the ordinary willing to be used by God. Everyone can join the mission.”
After that, Mak has dutifully served as STM team leader every summer for 3 consecutive years. He has seen how quickly young people grow during STM, so he values the relation-building moments before departure. Getting to know his teammates by understanding their expectations and personalities helps to prepare the team for stronger bonds and readiness for tight flight connections.
Faithful to his long-term mission commitment, Mak was still a local church youth pastor while awaiting the right time to serve in the field. But God had another plan. Last year Mak led Bangladesh team for STM. During the camp training, he received a new calling. “Are you willing to contribute to the mission as a supporting pastor raising up mission-minded young people?” Moved deeply, Mak embraced his new role without hesitation.
Obedience sustains Mak’s journey. “My fellow church members have not joined CCMN STM in 3 years, but I recognize this as my burden from God. I will continue contributing to the mission movement to fulfill my calling.”
